Hi! We are The Loucalizers and this is our Brazilian Portuguese submission for LocJam 2021.

Our group is formed by:

Along with the basic submission, we would also like to describe our translation and collaboration process, detailing tools and how we organized ourselves.

Our chosen tools were:

  • Discord for communication
  • OmegaT for translation and editing
  • Google Drive for file organization and sharing

First, we joined up on a Discord server and got to know each other a bit, then as soon as the source file was available, things got more interesting.

Our first challenge was to split the original file in six evenly divided parts. To do so, we have used Notepad+ to generate 6 individual HTMLs, which would then be loaded up by their respective translators on OmegaT. The files were uploaded to our Google Drive, so everyone had access to them.

We randomly assigned each file to its translator, and then each editor to a different file, this way, everyone would have a chance to both translate and edit, while maximizing the amount of people working interconnected, which would, in turn, maximize collaboration.

Final split results were as follows:

With this split, additional Discord channels were also created, one for each “index” part, plus a general chat and a general discussion channel:

With these chats, we were able to organize topics and provide a direct chat for translator-reviewer discussions, with the whole team having full visibility and being always welcome to join specific conversations.

Additionally, a glossary was also created on Google Drive, where we would add terms and translation suggestions, with even a points system to have some preliminary decisions on which would be our preferred option.

Now, with everything in place, we finally went to OmegaT (https://omegat.org) and started our proper translations. We opted to use this specific CAT tool since it is a free-to-use program with intuitive UI, practical segmentation and, generally, a really organized format.

From this point onwards, things went smoothly as expected, everyone got to their translations and proceeded to further discuss with reviewers. Moving files through their respective Google Drive folders.

After we had the reviewed files in 03. Final folder, we merged everything again with Notepad+ and generated a proper fully translated html.

From this merge, we hopped up into a Discord call to start the QA step and check everything section by section, with one of us reading the whole text out loud and all six discussing how everything felt, if it was natural and, most importantly, consistent with the whole project.

Once we had a truly final version with all edits from our QA call, we submitted the project to the Jam, and that is all!

We hope you like our project, it was a really fun experience, filled with collaboration and exchange of ideas.
